| Neville Brody is perhaps the best known graphic designer of his generation. Brody first made his way into the public eye through his record cover designs [see famous record cover designers] and his involvement in the British independent music scene in the early 1980s. It was his work on magazines that firmly established his reputation as one of the world's leading graphic designers. In particular, his artistic contribution to The Face magazine completely revolutionized the way in which designers and readers approached the medium. His unique designs soon became much-imitated models for magazines, advertising and consumer-oriented graphics. Neville Brody also won much public acclaim through his highly innovative ideas on incorporating and combining typefaces into design and he later took this a step further and began designing his own typefaces, thus opening the way for the advent of digital type design. His contributions to the world of graphic design and digital typography are invaluable. Often referred to as a "star typographer," Brody has designed a number of well-known typefaces. |

| The title of this book may be misleading. As a reviewer put it, "When I first skimmed through this book my initial reaction was ' I have seen most of this stuff before'...When you stop skimming and start reading and really looking at what is presented in this book you will realize...this book is not full of the greatest pieces of graphic design and it wasn't meant to be. Instead it is a different look at design. It is communication through dimensions and the vernacular." | With over 450 illustrations, this book provides a wide-ranging introduction to a crucial period in graphic design. The original expression of one of the pioneers for the digital age, The Graphic Language of Neville Brody is at once a historical document, a classic of graphic design, and a relevant tool for designers working today. | ||||
