JASON ROBINS
oct 15 '77 - sep 19 '01
Among his many talents, Jason Robins was a gifted dancer. He taught dance and was a member of a Bay Area hip hop dance team. Having battled depression for many years, dance was one of the outlets that helped him through the difficult times. Sadly, in September 2001, he took his life at age 23. [ About Jason Robins ]

To honor him, friends and Council for the Arts, Palo Alto (CAPA) helped his family establish a scholarship in Jason's name. Every year the scholarship provided funds to help one or more young dancers obtain formal dance instruction. Awards varied.

This Scholarship Has Ended

Since 2004, we have been able to offer this scholarship because of our affiliation with the non-profit organization CAPA (Council for the Arts, Palo Alto). CAPA announced that it will discontinue the program.

Unfortunately, this means that we must end the Jason Robins Scholarship for the time being, including the 2010 scholarship and subsequent ones. If you were preparing to apply for the scholarship, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

This scholarship was launched through the efforts of Deborah Cohen to honor Jason Robins, who was a dancer. The generous donations came from businesses in California, and from friends and family of Jason Robins. We would like to thank the judges on our committee, especially Aaron Dalugdug of ImageSource Presentation Systems of Mountain View. CAPA administered the scholarship funds. FastWeb announced the scholarship on its scholarships website. Our deepest appreciation to each and every one of them.

The family of Jason Robins and CAPA would also like to thank everyone who submitted an application to the scholarship. Selecting from the applications we received was challenging. We wish all of you much success.

Thank you for helping us keep Jason's spirit alive.

We are often asked if we offer other scholarships. We were only offering The Jason Robins Scholarship, but may offer others in the future. You can find other scholarships at FastWeb -- the one we chose to announce our scholarship -- and other reputable scholarship websites.
