Saul Bass (1920-1996) was one of the great graphic designers of the mid- to late-1900s. Born in New York City, he studied at the Art Students League and Brooklyn College. He worked as a freelance designer in New York until he opened his studio in Los Angeles in 1946. His works included logo designs for well-known companies such as AT&T and Alcoa, and print work for film ads. While designing the Carmen Jones movie poster, Otto Preminger asked Bass to design the movie's title sequence as well. He is probably most famous for his more than 70 creative title designs from 1954 to 1995. Below are posters for some of those movies, many of which are from his work with top movie directors Otto Preminger, Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, and Martin Scorsese.
